A stunning Tabriz rug from North West Persian. The design consists of indigo fields with an all over design of palmettes and flowering vines, within a madder meandering flowering vine and palmette border. The city of Tabriz is known for its famous textile-manufacturing, the Azerbaijani-populated province in the north-west of Iran boasts one of the oldest rug weaving centers in the world which in turn produces a large variety of carpets characterized by having an exceptionally fine knot density (indicative of high-quality hand-knotted rugs). An antique Tabriz rug can be made of cotton or silk and woven as a pile carpet or flat-weave.
In good condition with no holes or repairs, very striking and unusual design.
