An unusually large 17th-century North Italian walnut commode with canted corners. Featuring four long graduated drawers, three of which display molded front panels.
Each drawer displays a pair of brass Sun handles with matching escutcheon, both of which have been subtly engraved creating an additional dimension to the already exceptionally unique piece. This chest of drawers is raised on a lower plinth with bracket feet, which have been elegantly shaped in a scroll-like manner.
The age of this commode becomes apparent when looking at the internal composition, the oversized hand-hewn panels of ancient walnut that form the framework of this piece are both extremely large in dimension and exceptionally thick - highlighting the workmanship that would have gone into composing such an article, while also bearing in mind the volume of exotic wood used to create such a designer like antique. The sheer size of this commode can't help but ooze grandeur while also creating a great sense of individuality, a rare artifact that truly is one of a kind.
